Collective writing has been such a core part of The Thriving Researcher activities from its very beginning and in 2021, we’ll be adding an additional strand to our writing programme: three stand-alone full-day writing retreats to raise funds and awareness for the Council for At Risk Academics (Cara).

Around the world, there are academics without the freedom to meet and write that we enjoy. Members of our extended academic community work under almost unimaginable conditions of hardship and threat to share their academic contributions with the world.

For those unable to remain safely in their home countries, Cara is there as a lifeline. It was founded in 1933 to support scholars fleeing Nazi oppression in Central Europe and has continued its work until the present day.

Retreats are open to anyone with a connection to a university, who wants to spend a day focussed on some collective writing while also making a real contribution to Cara’s vital work.

Event details:

Dates: Wednesday 17 March, Wednesday 7 July, Wednesday 24 November

Times: 9am-4:30pm UK time

Ticket Costs: 1 retreat = £15, 2 retreats = £30, 3 retreats = £45

100% of the ticket cost is a donation to Cara: if 22 people sign-up for each retreat, collectively we’d contribute £1,000 over the year (and possibly 20% more if participants are willing/able to add GiftAid) – what a brilliant thing to be part of, a real win-win!

Further details and how to book here

If you’ve got any questions at all about the retreat(s) please get in touch using the contact form here, and I’ll get back to you as soon as possible.

Please come, and encourage your friends and colleagues to come too: together, we really can make a wider difference to our academic community, while also building a stronger sense of community closer to home – even in these Covid times.

I look forward to welcoming you to one of the retreats soon.
